Waterville Farmers’ Market Annual Meeting

January 28, 2010

Barrels, 74 Main Street, Waterville, Maine


Present: Jo Gorey of A Page-N-Thyme Farm, Fred Nassar of Eagle View Farm, Bob Perol of Diversity Farm, Don Kenerson of Kennerson Farm, Clayton Carter of Fail Better Farm, Ernie Ames of 100 Acre Farm, Rachel Katz of Smith Farm, Izzy McKay of Half Moon Gardens, Sarah Smith of Grassland Farm, Hanne Tierney of Cornerstone Farm, Mark Guzzi of Peacemeal Farm, Todd Murphy of Trees to Please, Kristen Oberhauser Bishop of Wiseacre Farm, Richard Reed of R & L Farm, Bill Neville of Tangled Oak Farm, Jean Koons of Kennebec Creamery, Roger Collins of Roger Collins Blacksmith, Shannon Haines of Waterville Main Street, Robie Leavitt of Somerset Coffee, Tom Roberts of Snakeroot Farm, Karl Rau of Good Breads, and Raini Perry of Raini Ridge Farm.

I. Dave G. of Barrels introduced himself and mentioned business opportunities with Barrels.

II. There was no Market Report as Jack left midseason and Trish of Pudleduk had a head injury.

III. Elections: Hanne was elected Chair;.Clayton was elected Market Manager;.Sarah is winter market manager; Jean is Treasurer; Karl is Assistant Treasurer; Izzy is Secretery; Steering committee is Richard, Bill and Christene. Don will assist with cones and Tom will continue managing website.

IV. Taste of the Market. Job not assigned. Dept of AG says samples are not legal.

V. Dates of Market: opening 1st Thursday of May –November 18th. After Daylight savings which is 11/7, market closes at dusk.

VI. New Legislation regarding definition of Farmers’ Market: Clayton read position statement. Voted to take statement to Farmers’ Market conference in Belfast.

VII. Non Profits at market: They need to stay in the middle; no wandering around the market. They can only provide information; no petitions. They must be non political. Musicians must be acoustic only. No monies changing hands. They need to apply and we will schedule. They must walk in and provide their own set up. Richard will coordinate and Karl will assist.

VIII. Change in buy in rule: voted to not allow any buy in of products. We are now a producers’ farmers market only.

IX. Suggestion: To use paper ballots when more than 1 person runs for a position. Voted to accept.

X. Provisional members: Apple Farm, Smith Farm and Somerset coffee were voted in as full members. Somerset is also adding granola and cocoa.
